Joe Ballard will appear at the Truro location of book retailer, Coles, to sign copies of his new book, Fairy Dells & Rustic Bowers, The Creation of Victoria Park, NS, from 1pm to 3pm.

To mark Parks Day, Joe Ballard will read from his new book, Fairy Dells & Rustic Bowers, at 2pm at the bandstand in Truro’s Victoria Park.

Joe Ballard will join host Paul Kennedy and others on CBC Radio’s national program Ideas to discuss the merits of a rapidly changing Halifax skyline.

2016  Events

March 8, 2016

The East Hants Historical Society presents Joe Ballard, President of Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia as its first speaker for its 2016 program.  Mr. Ballard will speak about the manifold approaches to preservation employed by Heritage Trust.  He will also discuss recent research with which he is privately engaged including historic architectural paint colors of Nova Scotia and how Nova Scotians named their homes.  The lecture will take place at 7:30 pm, at Riverside Education Centre in Milford.

Joe Ballard will be a guest on CBC’s regional phone-in program, Maritime Noon.  Host Jean LaRoche will be asking Maritimers, “Do we care enough about our heritage?”

Joe Ballard will be a speaker at the Provincial Heritage Conference at the Old Orchard Inn in Wolfville.  His topic will be Opportunities & Partnerships.

 

2015  Events

September 17, 2015

Joe Ballard is pleased to participate in the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia’s Public Lecture Series.  His lecture, titled “Truro’s Victorian Pleasure Ground,” will outline what it is about 125 year-old Victoria Park that is so explicitly Victorian and why it should matter today.  The talk takes place at 7:30 pm in the Auditorium of the Museum of Natural History, 1747 Summer Street, Halifax.  Joe Ballard is looking for more information related to Victoria Park’s chief promoter, James D. Ross and his extended family including: Sarah (Ross) Campbell, who married George Campbell K.C.  Also their children: Arthur W. Campbell, Dr. Gordon Campbell, and Andrew J. Vineberg & Fulton is a sponsor of Truro’s annual heritage home tour.  Full color souvenir booklets detail the unique history of each home and offer other snippets of local history directly related to the homes and their owners.  Booklets are $15 each and serve as passes to get you inside each home for enjoyable and informative tours.  The passport booklets can be purchased at MacQuarries Pharmasave or the Colchester Historical Society, both in Truro.  All proceeds fund Truro’s Built Heritage Grant Program.  We are proud that this year’s tour features one our projects: 23 Inglis Place.

Vineberg & Fulton is a sponsor of Truro’s annual heritage home tour.  Truro is celebrating its historic homes with home tours on Saturday May 25, and Sunday May 26 from 12-5pm on both days.  Full color souvenir booklets detail the unique history of each home and offer other snippets of local history directly related to the homes and their owners.  Booklets are $15 each and serve as passes to get you inside each home for enjoyable and informative tours.  The passport booklets can be purchased at MacQuarries Pharmasave or the Colchester Historical Society, both in Truro.  All proceeds fund Truro’s Built Heritage Grant Program.

Also in conjunction with the home tours will be a Jubilee Tea at the Colchester Historical Society museum, 29 Young Street.  The tea is $6 and also includes a small exhibit honouring Queen Elizabeth and her Diamond Jubilee and reflecting on the last monarch to reach this milestone, Queen Victoria.  This event has been wonderfully coordinated with the home tours which feature homes all located on Queen Street.  Hope to see you there!
